1800 Cabrillo Memorial Dr, San Diego, CA 92106

Cabrillo Tide Pools Trail is an easy, 0.5 mile hike in Cabrillo National Monument that will take about 1 hour to complete with Fido. Although some people along the trail may tell you that your dog is not allowed, this trail is in fact the only area in Cabrillo National Monument where dogs are allowed. Fido will have to remain on a leash on the trail to the tide pools.

1549 El Prado, San Diego, CA, US, 92101

Leashed dogs are welcome to enjoy many of the offerings of Balboa Park, one of the largest urban parks in the country with over 1000 acres. The park has plenty of open spaces, gardens, and walking paths in addition to the San Diego Zoo, museums, and theaters. There are also two designated off-leash areas for dogs to explore at Balboa Dr at El Prado on the south side of Cabrillo Bridge and Morley Field located northwest of the tennis courts. When not in a designated off-leash area, dogs must be leashed at all time, and humans must clean up after their dogs throughout the park and off-leash areas.

San Elijo Lagoon Trail is an easy, 3-mile hike in the San Elijo Ecological Reserve that will take about 2 hours to complete with Fido. This trail runs close by the lagoon and provides the opportunity to enjoy wetland plants and birds. This beautiful area is still close by the highway and parts of it can be muddy. Dogs must be leashed at all times.

Iron Mountain Trail is a moderately easy, 5.75 mile hike that will take about 2.5 hours to complete with Fido. This is a very popular trail that is clearly marked. If your dog is used to trails it should be okay on his paws, if not you may want to work him up to it. There is a shorter trip to the Ramona overlook on the same trail.
